In this blog post we’re going to be discussing the average cost of a starter home in the Appleton, Wisconsin area or any of the surrounding communities. Generally speaking, across the Fox Valley price points are close when going from City to City.
So when you’re looking at buying your first house, you have so many questions you just want the answer to everything. And, that’s why I created this video library of a ton of content for you to devour and for you to learn about the first time home buying process.
Starter Home Prices
What is the average cost of a starter home, here in the Appleton area? So, the median price point has went up over the past five, six, seven years and it goes up or down when the economy appreciates or depreciates. As the economy & home values go up, the average starter house budget goes up as well. But, the average starter house price is about $150,000 to $165,000. Of course, you can buy something for cheaper, but based upon the median income here in the Fox Valley that price point is the most popular for first time home buyers.
Of course, I’ve had people buy their first house for $75,000 and I’ve also had some people spend upwards of $300,000 on their first house. It really depends on what your certain situation is. One thing I do want to mention is because $150,000-$160,000 is the most popular price point you will have more competition. Meaning, the property you like could get multiple offers when it goes on the market.
Don’t Be House Poor
I always say spend below your means, you don’t want to be house poor. You want to still be able to do things, upgrade items in the house and be able to live a nice life in a home that you enjoy, and then you can upgrade over the years to come. Maxing out your budget leads to a few common scenarios:
- If someone loses their job you need to sell the house or go through Foreclosure
- Not being able to purchase things outside of your home
- Concerned Each Month About the Cost Of the House
